Ph Team hauls 22 medals and awards

Team Philippines harvested a total of 22 medals and awards in the World Talent Invitational Mathematics Examination (WTIME) held at Dusit Thani Hua Hin Hotel, Phetchaburi, Thailand on August 16 – 20, 2018. 

Three Filipino students, Arielle Victoria Encarnacion, Grade 5, from Our Lady of Caysacay Academy, Gio Almayda, Grade 6, From Yaddah Christian School, Inc, and Dominique Joy T. Rustia, Grade 6, from St. Theresa’s College Quezon City were on top of the contest for winning gold medal for the country. Their victory, giving the entire team a feel of the seventh heaven, was an obvious show of their math might.  

Stepping out into the light of distinction for bringing home four silver medals were Sean Omar Francisco, Grade 4, from Colegio San Agustin – Makati, Kim Andrie Trompeta, Grade 4, from Colegio San Agustin – Biñan, Joven Augustus Costales, Grade 5, from BHC Edcuational Institution, Inc, and Zedryan Mikell Ancheta, Grade 6, from School of St. Anthony. 

The following young Filipino mathletes garnering bronze medals were: Iñigo Joaquin Bascuña, Grade 3, from Ateneo De Naga University – Grade School, Erin Megan Chao from Philippine Institute of Quezon City, Rayne Chayele Salvador, Grade 3, from Centro Cultura Incorporada, Juliana Elisha Go, Grade 4, from Tarlac Living Faith Academy, Alyssa Janelle Ocataviano, Grade 4, from Centro De Cultura Incorporada, Vincent Joaquin Torres, Grade 4, Lourdes School of Quezon City, Chloe Ysabel Arandia, Grade 5, from St. Pedro Poveda College, Justin Anthony Docdoc, Grade 5, from Father Saturnino Urios University, Nathaniel Dave Parchamento, Grade 5, from La Immaculada Concepcion School, Juliene Nissi Palada, Grade 5, from BHC Educational Institution, Inc, and Justice Leira Abdon, Grade 6, from School of St. Anthony. Finally, these were the students, who grabbed a merit award each, Giesel Arce, Grade 4, from Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Ava Samantha Peralta, Grade 4, from Shining Light School, Gerardenzo Policarpio, Grade 5, from Falcon School, and Yvonne Lorein Malinao, Grade 6, from BHC Educational Institution, Inc. 

The World TIME which drew in participants from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand, is the International Mathematics Competition for grade 2 to 11 students whose purposes are to cultivate and create the youth’s interest in mathematics learning and get ideas to improve the students’ thinking abilities.
