Filipino Students win 114 awards in IMOYA in Singapore

GOOD news. The Philippine team amassed 114 awards in the 4th International Mathematics Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) held onsite in the “Lion City” Singapore from March 24 to 27, 2023.
 
The Filipino mathletes appeared on stage with arms raised aloft in a victorious stance at the prize presentation reaping 8 gold, 25 silver, and 31 bronze medals in the individual contest and 5 champion awards, 20 1st runners-up, and 25 2nd runners-up awards in the team competition.
 
Giorgio Othello Gumban from the Ateneo De Manila University – Junior High School and Benito Andre Yulo from the Philippine Cultural College – Manila were declared top scorers in the individual contest in Grade 9 and Grade 11, respectively.
 
In addition, the Philippine team obtained 5 champion awards in the team competition courtesy of the following math wizards: Yama Raj Maniago from Philippine Science High School – Socsksargen Campus, Joshua Miguel Tan from Ateneo De Manila – Junior High School, Cara Elise Gohoc from MGC New Life Christian Academy, Ellyce Jae Lim and Sebastian Theo Ong from Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas.
 
The IMOYA drew more than 400 participants from the following countries and territories: Onsite: Hong Kong and Macao, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Philippines; Offsite: Bulgaria, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, and Thailand.
