Filipino mathletes win 19 medals in Singapore

The Filipino math wizards brought home a total of 19 medals from the 14th Asian Finals of the World Math Fusion Olympiad held at Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), Singapore on February 2, 2020.

The Philippines won two (2) gold medals courtesy of Arthur Caleb Co, Grade 9, from Philippine Science High School- Central Luzon Campus and Bert Jacob Tropicales, Grade 8, from Philippine Science High School- Main Campus.

Giving the country the gleam of their victory were the following silver medalists: John Paul Ceniza Tee, Grade 9, Ateneo De Manila Junior High School; John Iain Iñigo Aguada, Grade 4, De La Salle Santiago Zobel School; Samantha Isabelle Bondoc, Grade 3, Jesus Is Lord Colleges Foundation; Ciara Kelzie Gudoy, Grade 4, Miriam College – QC; Giorgio Othello Gumban, Grade 6, Rose Vale School; and Lorraine Joy Calica, Grade 9, University of Santo Tomas Junior High School.

The team Philippines also hooked 11 bronze medals which were credited to the following mathletes: Wackiene Gaffud, Grade 8, Grace Christian College; Dan Paul Loteyro, Grade 6, Holy Child Catholic School: William Matthew Lim, Grade 6, PAREF Springdale School; Allaysa Dela Cruz, Grade 8, Schola De Vita;  Ma. Regidor Ponferrada, Grade 3 and Anthony Vince Co, Grade 8, Xavier School; and of course these students from San Beda College – Alabang: Gavin Jonah Baskinas, Grade 5; Paolo Miguel Garingo, Grade 9; Gianna Patricia Jimenez, Grade 6 and Joaquin Gabriel Rodriguez, Grade 6 and Amanda Ira Panuncialman, Grade 6.

As part of the strict infection prevention measures and other sanitation standards against the COVID-19 spread in Singapore, the contest organizers conducted the competition by country in their respective hotels.
