SASMO 2017 NO LONGER a project of MTG and MathDAP

The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines and Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines (MathDAP) jointly declare that Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) has been removed from their list of activities and projects.
Both MTG and MathDAP have terminated their partnership with SASMO after knowing that the latter’s objectives run counter to the former’s vision and mission.
It has been found out that SASMO and Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC – the second round for students obtaining commendable scores) would base their medal awards through the performance result of the participants of each country and not through the overall performance of all entrants from the participating countries. This means, those students of the same country would compete among themselves and not with the students of other countries.
It should be noted that SASMO which was introduced in the Philippines in 2015 was placed under the supervision of MathDAP with the support of MTG Philippines. MathDAP in its effort to enrich students’ mathematical skills subsidized the registration fee and administered the contest for FREE to all MOSTP trainees for two years .

But in 2016, the SASMO organizer has increased the entry feefrom SG$4 to SG$20 per entrant excluding the amount charged for the individual medal. Despite the MathDAP request to reduce the seemingly exorbitant registration fee, SASMO is not only reluctant but declines to compromise. Furthermore,  any student obtaining an award should pay for the medal. Therefore, SASMO has lost support from MTG and MathDAP.
