Filipino math aces haul medals in Singapore

It was another feat of strength exhibited by Filipino math wizards as they grabbed eight medals and one honorable mention award in the 2016 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held at St. Joseph’s Institution Junior, Singapore on August 13 – 16, 2016.
Winning gold medals were Kody G. Briones from Emmanuel Christian School, Emmanuel James V. Laforteza from Mother Goose Special School System, Inc, and Michael Gerard R. Tongson from Stonyhurst Southville International School.
This year’s silver medalists were Giorgio Othello O. Gumban from Rosevale School, Wackiene R. Gaffud from Xavier School, Anika Gayle Tan from Makati Hope Christian School and Justin jay R. Miguel from Falcon School.
The Philippines also hooked a bronze medal and an honorable mention award courtesy of Jaeven Allan J. Miguel from Falcon School and Matthew B. Defensor of Solomon Integrated School De Iloilo, respectively.
SIMOC is a unique concept of mathematics competition which not only tests the students’ ability to solve mathematical problems on pen and paper but also tests their ability to work as a team to play interactive mathematical games and solve puzzles.

The countries and territories that joined SIMOC this year were Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
